Portraiture of Love

At first light I positioned my easel,

filled my palette and gathered my brushes

Attempting to capture the sunrise

obscuring my view, was simply you.

Soon I was looking at an abstract.

Vibrant colors that swirled and peaked.

Sighing in frustration,

what did it mean?

Then I realized I had created

a portraiture of my love for you.

Pastels soft as a summer night,

subtle hues of tender emotion,

softest blues, creams and liquid greens,

sensual ivory and lavenders of longing.

Light red and tangerine jumped from the canvas

explosions of sexual intoxication and creativity

Purple playing on the magic of romance

tickled with white, symbol of loves purity

No words could express what my colors revealed

I love you.......

The first time you caught my eye

Was at our high school dance

My heart began to race so fast

Mesmerized, as if in a trance

Sparkling eyes, your rosy cheeks

Golden hair, a smile so sweet

Your dance, so light like angels flight

How I prayed our lips would meet

Stroking my hair, brown eyes got misty

A smile made my knees go weak

You safely wrapped in my strong embrace

As we glided cheek to cheek.

Your movements graced with elegance

Left dance floor embers burning

One touch of your skin so addictive

My wheel of fate began turning.

Claiming my soul at that moment

Knowing you would be my wife

Never will you need to leave my arms

Contented I'll hold you for life.

Now praying like never before

Wishing time would stand still

I now have reasons to live forever
